Over the weekend 10 SMU Football players signed to NFL teams, led by tight end Matthew Hibner who
was selected by the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday, April 25, during the fourth round of the 2026 NFL
Draft. The 9 other players signed as undrafted free agents, including the entire 2025 starting defensive
line.
This year saw slightly fewer Mustangs going to the NFL, with 2 getting drafted in the 2025 NFL Draft and
11 being signed as undrafted free agents. However, it is important for the Mustangs to keep key
players after an exceptional performance this year, including winning the Holiday Bowl 24-19, marking
their first bowl game win in 13 years.
Hibner himself played a starring role in that bowl victory. On just the second play of the game, SMU ran a
play that resulted in an 80-yard gain by the tight end, setting up the Mustangs' first score of the day. His
performance here likely played a key role in cementing his place in the draft.
Among the confirmed undrafted signings, wide receiver Jordan Hudson, who is a Garland, Texas native, a
transfer from TCU in 2024, signed with the Dallas Cowboys. Hudson had a standout collegiate season in
2025, posting 766 yards and 6 touchdowns on 61 receptions to lead the team in receiving. Another notable
UDFA was defensive end Cameron Robertson, who signed with the Arizona Cardinals, and running back
T.J. Harden, who will be joining Hibner in Baltimore.
While there are certainly some large gaps for the Mustangs to fill going into next season, the pipeline to
The NFL is a testament to the program's trajectory under head coach Rhett Lashlee.
